# Onboarding & Verification

> Who can open a Tythe Account, what each kind of principal can do and where, the steps from a wallet to an underwritten account, and what happens after.

A Tythe Account is opened by a principal: a verified individual or a verified legal entity that owns the account, is underwritten, delegates to agents, and is responsible for what they do. Agents act for a principal. They are never customers and never borrowers. This page tells you whether you can join, what opens for you, how onboarding works step by step, and what happens after.

## Who can join

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Individuals" icon="user">
    Any natural person who passes identity verification and anti-money-laundering screening. Professional traders and independent on-chain operators are the typical case. There is no minimum size or sophistication test for the account itself.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Businesses and institutions" icon="building">
    Any legal entity that passes business verification, beneficial-ownership checks, and sanctions screening: companies, funds, institutions, and DAOs with a legal wrapper. A sole operator who runs on-chain activity through a company joins as an entity.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

Both kinds receive the same account, the same agent and mandate system, and the same underwriting. What differs is which capabilities are open, and that depends on your kind and your jurisdiction.

### Verification and underwriting

* **Verification** makes you a principal. It is required to hold, pay, save, and lend. It is performed once by Tythe's provider, renewed on a set cadence, and only a reference to it is stored on-chain.
* **Underwriting** produces your Tythe Rating and Credit Limit. It is required to borrow and to delegate authority to agents. It runs from your first day, on your on-chain history alone, and improves as you operate.

Underwriting never gates holding, paying, saving, or lending.

### What each principal can do

| Capability | Individual                         | Entity | Requires                                                    |
| ---------- | ---------------------------------- | ------ | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| Treasury   | Yes                                | Yes    | Verification                                                |
| Payments   | Yes                                | Yes    | Verification                                                |
| Delegate | Yes | Yes | Verification, and underwriting of each agent |
| Save       | Yes                                | Yes    | Verification                                                |
| Lend | Yes | Yes | Verification, and the Subscription Agreement |
| Borrow | Where consumer-credit rules permit | Yes | Verification, underwriting, and the Master Credit Agreement |

Credit to a natural person is consumer credit, regulated separately and more strictly everywhere. Tythe opens Borrow for individuals only where counsel has confirmed a compliant path; at launch, Loans are made to entities. Your Tythe Rating accrues from day one regardless, so Borrow opens without a fresh underwriting cycle when your jurisdiction permits. An individual who needs credit at launch can incorporate and join as an entity.

### Where Tythe is available

Onboarding confirms your jurisdiction and shows exactly which capabilities are open to you before you commit any funds. Full detail, including restricted persons, is under [Regulatory posture and availability](/get-started/resources/legal-regulatory-posture).

## The steps

Each step says what you do and what lands on-chain. Verification is performed by Tythe's provider; documents never leave it.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Connect your operator wallet">
    The wallet you connect becomes your first operator key: the key that signs instruments and mandates and owns your account. Use a wallet you control and can recover.

    On-chain: nothing yet.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify">
    Individuals: a government identity document, proof of address, liveness. Entities: incorporation documents, beneficial owners, an authorised signatory. Both: sanctions and anti-money-laundering screening. Your jurisdiction is confirmed here.

    On-chain: nothing yet.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign the Account Agreement">
    The agreement states that you own your keys and your account, that Tythe holds neither, and sets out the fee schedule and the dispute process. It is rendered as prose before you sign.

    On-chain: your Entity Profile is registered with your `entityId`, principal kind, verification reference, reverification date, and the agreement's hash. Status: `verified`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Your account is deployed">
    Tythe deploys your smart-contract account at an address derived from your `entityId`, with your operator key as owner and Tythe's mandate check and hook installed.

    On-chain: the account contract, and its address recorded on your profile.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Fund">
    Send USDC on Base to your account address from any wallet. Bind the wallets you will fund from and withdraw to as external wallets on your profile; each binding needs your operator's submission and the wallet's signed consent.

    On-chain: a USDC transfer; one wallet binding per external wallet.
  </Step>

  <Step title="First underwriting">
    The Entity Underwriting Engine reads the on-chain history of every bound wallet and produces your first Tythe Rating and Credit Limit, with reason codes shown in your console. Connecting bank data is optional and needs a signed Data Consent.

    On-chain: a signed Rating attestation, bounded by registered caps.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### What you have afterwards

## After onboarding

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Reverification" icon="rotate" iconType="solid">
    Verification expires on the reverification date set at registration. Past it your profile is stale: holding and withdrawing still work, but no new mandates, Loans, or Lend supplies until you renew. The console warns you ahead of time.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Suspension" icon="ban" iconType="solid">
    A compliance event, such as a sanctions hit or a failed reverification, suspends your profile. While suspended, every agent is inactive immediately and no authority can be issued. Withdrawing your idle balance is never blocked. Suspension is lifted only by Tythe's compliance function; routine renewal cannot lift it, so a false positive can be corrected without anyone else being able to lift a real one.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Adding operators" icon="users" iconType="solid">
    Any wallet you bind to your profile is an operator in V1 and can sign mandates and instruments. Threshold approvals across operators are on the roadmap. See [Operators and keys](/principals/onboarding/operators-keys).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Binding your first agent" icon="robot" iconType="solid">
    Agents are bound after onboarding, when you are ready to delegate. Each binding needs your operator's signature on an Agent Authorization and the agent key's co-signature. See [Delegate](/principals/account/delegate).

### What you take responsibility for

* **Your keys and your account.** Tythe holds neither. Lose your key without recovery configured and access is lost.
* **Your agents.** The Agent Authorization appoints each agent as your agent and makes you responsible for what it does within any mandate you give it. A mandate is only as safe as the ceiling you set.
* **Your Loans.** Loans drawn by your agents are your Loans. The borrower of record is always the principal.
